A male body has been found in the Swale after a closure of the northbound carriageway of the A249 Sheppey Crossing.

Kent Police were called at 6.33am this morning (Tuesday 24th April) following a collision involving two cars on the Maidstone-bound carriageway of the A249 near Stockbury.

Police officers, South East Coast Ambulance Service and Kent Fire and Rescue Service all attended the scene and a woman in her 60's from the Sittingbourne area was pronounced dead at the scene. Her next of kin have been informed.

Both carriageways were closed while emergency services dealt with the incident and were fully re-opened at 1.35pm this afternoon.

The A249 was closed for several hours earlier this afternoon (Wednesday 16th August) due to an accident involving two cars and a van on the Northbound (Sittingbourne/Sheppey) carriageway.

The accident happened shortly after 1.00pm and all emergency services attended the scene including the Kent Fire And Rescue Service (KFRS) who used hydrualic cutting gear on an overturned vehcile.

Kent Police are appealing for information following a collision near the Stockbury Roundabout at the weekend.

Officers were called to a report that a white Ford KA had overturned on the A249 in Stockbury Valley at 10.11am on Sunday (23rd July).

The South East Coast Ambulance Service, the Kent Air Ambulance and Kent Fire and Rescue Service were also deployed and a teenage girl was treated at the scene for a serious head injury before being taken to a London Hospital. 

Local motorists are being warned that the M2 will be closed both ways between Junction 5 (Sittingbourne) and Junction 6 (Faversham) junctions during this weekend.

The motorway will closed for carriageway strengthening between 8pm and 6am on Saturday (14th January), Sunday (15th January) and Monday (16th January).

Kent Police officers are appealing for witnesses following two separate collisions on the A249 earlier today (Thursday 19th May).

The first collision occurred at 4.01am this morning on the Maidstone-bound carriageway next to the Key Street roundabout and involved a Renault Modus car and a HGV lorry.

At 5.01am a second collision was reported a short distance away on the same carriageway. The incident was close to the junction for Bobbing and was reported to have involved a Citroen Berlingo van and a lorry which was queuing as a result of the initial collision.

The Kent Fire and Rescue Service were called to the scene of a crash involving a car and a lorry on the A249 Maidstone-bound carriageway between Stockbury and Keycol at Danaway. just before 9.00pm last night (Thursday 17th March).

Crews used hydraulic rescue equipment to remove the roof of the car to release one female occupant, so that she could be cared for by the attending ambulance.

Kent Police officers investigating a serious collision in Brielle Way, Sheerness, earlier today (Wednesday 10th February) are appealing for witnesses.

A motorcyclist in his mid-20s was airlifted to a London hospital following the incident at about 10.10am this morning and remains in a critical condition.

He was riding his black Yamaha YQ 100 near the Blue Town end of Brielle Way when he was involved in a collision with a red Citroen C2.

Highways England have confirmed that both lanes on the northbound A249 should re-open tomorrow morning (Friday 5th February) following the completion of work to repair damage caused by a burst water main last month.

Highways England (HE) has confirmed that it is hoping to reopen one lane on the northbound A249 later this week, following completion of temporary works.

They have confirmed that it is "currently unsafe to reopen the slip road and inside lane as surveys have not confirmed the stability of the ground underneath the road and the adjacent void in the ground is a potential risk to drivers".
