Second Day Of Rush Hour Gridlock In Town

It was yet another afternoon / early evening of "gridlock" in Sittingbourne again today (Tuesday 2nd July) due to the continuing closure of the Kingsferry Bridge.

The bridge remains closed, for essential maintenance work by Network Rail, until 5am on Sunday (7th July). This will also be the case across the weekend of Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th July and then another full week's closure from Saturday 20th July until Saturday 27th July.

Witnesses Sought To Fatal A249 Collision

Officers are appealing for information following a fatal collision involving a car driver on the A249 near Stockbury earlier this morning (Monday 12th June).

The single-vehicle collision happened on the Sittingbourne-bound carriageway at around 4.25am and involved a silver Ford Fiesta.

The driver, a man in his 20s, was pronounced deceased at the scene. His next of kin has been informed.

Officers are seeking information following a collision on the M2 which led to a motorcyclist being seriously injured.

The collision happened at around 11:00am on Saturday (10th June), on the coastbound carriageway at a location close to junction 5. It involved a black Kawasaki motorcycle and a silver Ford Mondeo Estate. Police and ambulance crews attended and the rider of the motorcycle, a man aged in his 50s, was airlifted to a London hospital.

Dispersal Order To Tackle Nuisance Vehicles

A dispersal order will be in place over the weekend to tackle nuisance vehicles in Swale. It will operate from 7pm this eveining (Friday 19th May) until 7pm on Sunday (21st May) evening and includes Ridham Dock, Sheppey Way, Old Ferry Road, Swale Way, Barge Way, Neats Court Retail Park, Rushenden and Rushenden Marshes.

Kent Police say the enforcement "is due to an increase in reports of nuisance vehicles and, in some cases, dangerous driving at weekends. It allows officers to stop anyone involved in anti-social behaviour and move them on".

Witnesses Sought To Stockbury Collision

Local Kent Police officers are appealing for witnesses to a serious collision in Stockbury.

The incident was reported to have happened at around 2.50pm on Saturday (13th May) afternoon on the A249 at the junction with Chalky Road.

During the incident the driver of a white van was in collision with the driver of a red, white and blue BMW S1000 motorbike.

The van did not remain at the scene and the motorcyclist sustained serious injuries and remains in hospital.

M2 Works - Chestnut Street & Maidstone Road Closure

From 1am on Monday (24th April) Highways England will be closing the section of Maidstone Road that links to the Stockbury roundabout, south of Wormdale Hill.

They have confirmed that: "while we're working on the new link to Oad Street, there will be no access to the roundabout from Maidstone Road. We’re currently due to open the new link on Monday 19th June 2023".

Two Arrested In Connection With Lorry Fuel Thefts

Two men, suspected of stealing fuel from lorries, were arrested following quick work from a Kent Police dog and officers.

At around 3.45am on Monday (13th March) morning officers travelling on the A249 Maidstone-bound near Bobbing noticed a car parked close behind an HGV in a lay-by.

Two men then fled the scene as the patrol vehicle approached, with Police Dog Ciara and her handler called to assist in a search across fields.

Both suspects, one aged 30 and the other 21, were located shortly afterwards, arrested and later released on bail pending further enquiries.
