Police Investigate Death Of Man In Town Centre

Detectives are investigating following the death of a man in Sittingbourne town centre late Saturday (2nd August) night.

Police were called shortly after 9.30pm to a report of a collision involving a car and a man who had fallen from a wall into St Michael’s Road, near to the junction with Dover Street.

Officers attended along with paramedics and a man in his 30s was confirmed deceased. His next of kin has been informed.

A Sittingbiurne chef has scooped a top prize at the annual Asian and Oriental Chef Awards for 2025.

Jamal Uddin, known locally as "Jay" works at the Indian and Bangladeshi restaurant Humayra on Northwood Drive and was picked as a regional award winner. The Awards Ceremony was held at the House of Lords in London on Thursday 17th July. 

Mr Uddin took part in a "cook-off" at the event and was selected winner from a national pool of public-nominated chefs from across the UK after impressing a panel of industry experts.

Arrest Made And Suspected Stolen Goods Recovered

Patrols have arrested a man after air pods alleged to have been stolen from a car were tracked down in Sittingbourne.

The theft was reported by the victim after they found their car had been targeted in Pavilion Drive, Kemsley in the early hours of Tuesday (8th July) morning.

Enquiries led to the missing items being recovered by officers from a property less than a mile away two days later.

Appeal Following Damage To Vehicles

Kent Police officers are appealing for information after reports of criminal damage to several vehicles in Sittingbourne at the weekend.

The incidents happened in Denbigh Close, Middletune Avenue and Glenbrook Grove at around 3.30am on Saturday 28 June 2025. Victims contacted Kent Police after they found offensive messages had been scratched into the paintwork of their cars overnight. Some of the vehicles also had paint sprayed on them.

Trains Back To Normal Today

South Eastern rail services are due to be back to normal today (Thursday 26th June) following a fire that caused significant damage to signalling cables at Rainham yesterday.

All lines were closed between Gillingham and Sittingbourne, in both directions, following the incident, with a bus replacement service in operation between both stations and also between Sittingbourne and Sheerness-on-Sea.

All Highspeed services between Faversham and London St Pancras were also cancelled.

Police Dog Locates Suspected Burglar

A suspected burglar has been charged after a police dog and her handler located a man in bushy undergrowth in Kemsley.

Kent Police were called to a reported burglary in progress at 12.46am in the early hours of Tuesday (10th June) morning. It was alleged that a pharmacy in Grovehurst Road had been targeted. The suspect reportedly left the scene on foot.

Officers attended and enquiries were carried out at the scene. Police Dog Lyra and her handler began tracking and a man was located in undergrowth nearby. The man was detained.

Crews Tackle Grass Fire in Iwade

People around the Raspberry Hill Lane area in Iwade were being advised to keep windows and doors closed earlier today (Tuesday 3rd June).

The earlier advice was issued due to a large amount of smoke coming from a grass fire, which crews believed was caused accidentally after embers spread from an out-of-control bonfire.

The Kent Fire & Rescue Service (KFRS) were called at 11:37am and three fire engines attended, as well as an all-terrain vehicle. Firefighters used beaters and portable water tanks to extinguish the flames and no injuries were reported.

Appeal Following Inappropriate Behaviour In Park

Local Police investigating an incident involving inappropriate behaviour at a park in Sittingbourne are appealing to identify a man they wish to speak to.

A group of teenage girls were listening to music on a green between Amethyst Drive and The Meads Avenue at around 4pm on Thursday 17th April. They were approached by a man they did not know, who was described as being very unsteady on his feet.
