Tribute Paid To Motorcyclist Killed In Sheppey Collision

The family of a man, who was killed in a road traffic collision in Queenborough on Sheppey, have described him as a 'proud father and family man'.

Harry Richard Higgins, of Hillside Road in Queenborough, died after he was involved in a road traffic collision in Main Road on Saturday (25th January) .

The latest, following the 130 vehicle accident on the A249 Sheppey Crossing at 7.18am this morning, is that 8 people were seriously injured and more than 60 were treated for minor injuries on the scene by the South East Coast Ambulance Service.

It is believed that firefighters used hydraulic cutting equipment to release six people from their vehicles. 

Medway Martime Hospital has confirmed that they are dealing with 3 injuries in intensive care and that their A&E Department is closed to all new admissions until they have dealt with the backlog from the incident.

A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the death of Gary Pocock on the Isle of Sheppey.

It takes the number of arrests to five after four people were arrested yesterday (Tuesday 20th August) morning by officers from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate.

Four Arrested In Sheppey Murder Investigation

Three men and a teenage boy have been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the death of Gary Pocock on the Isle of Sheppey.

Officers from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate made a series of arrests earlier today (Tuesday 20th August) in connection with the murder investigation.

A 44-year-old man and a 20-year-old man, both from Manor Park in East London, together with a 20-year-old man from Benfleet in Essex and a 15-year-old boy from the Warden area of Sheppey, have been arrested on suspicion of murder. All four still remain in police custody.

Two people have been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the discovery of a body on the Isle of Sheppey in the early hours of Wednesday (7th August) morning.

A 44-year-old man and 43-year-old woman from the London area are currently in police custody.

The body of a man, thought to be in his 30's or 40's, was found on the beach between the Little Groves caravan site and Isle of Sheppey Holiday Village.

The death is being treated as suspicious and a murder investigation had been launched by the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate.

Kent Police have issued a fresh appeal for witnesses following the discovery of a man's body on the Isle of Sheppey yesterday.

A post mortem examination concluded that the man, who has yet to be identified, died of significant head injuries.

The man has been described as white, aged between 30-40 years old, around 5ft 6ins tall and was bald.

In a bid to help identify the man, detectives have released an image of a ring the man was wearing on his wedding finger.

A man has appeared in court after being charged by detectives investigating an armed robbery at the weekend on the Isle Of Sheppey.

25-year-old Gary Donald Grannells, of Notting Hill in London, appeared at Maidstone Magistrates' Court, on Thursday 4th July, accused of robbery at Mr G's Amusement Arcade on The Promenade, Leysdown at 12.15pm on Saturday (29th June) .

Appeal For Absconded Sheppey Prisoner

Kent Police are appealing for help from members of the public to help locate a man who absconded from prison on the Isle of Sheppey.

Last year thirty-six-year-old Martin Jones absconded from HMP Standford Hill - a category D open prison for prisoners including those at the end of their sentence. Following his disappearance on Monday 9th  July 2012 Jones, who was serving a sentence for burglary, remains unlawfully at large. He is described as 5ft 6ins tall, of medium build and has blue eyes. He has dark brown hair which is receding and possibly shaven.
