The votes cast in the Parliamentary election for the Faversham & Mid Kent constituency on Thursday 4th July 2024 were as follows:

  • Helen Whately – Conservative - 14,816
  • Mel Dawkins – Labour - 13,347
  • Maxwell Harrison – Reform UK - 9,884
  • Hannah Temple – Green Party - 4,218
  • Hannah Perkin – Liberal Democrat - 4,158
  • Lawrence Rustem – British Democratic Party - 171

Our local MP for Sittingbourne and Sheppey, Gordon Henderson, learned how Biomass plants powered by waste wood can contribute to the UK,s energy security and net zero goals on a visit to MVV Environments Ridham Dock facility recently.

The 25MW combined heat and power biomass plant had opened in 2015 and processes 195,000 tonnes of end-of-life post-consumer waste wood each year into renewable electricity.

A Litter Angel has had her winning poster design put up in local McDonald’s car parks following last year’s anti-litter poster competition in primary schools across Sittingbourne and Sheppey.

Zosia Szancilo, who attends Borden C of E Primary School, won the 2021 Litter Angels competition. She was presented with a certificate, a personalised mug and a £50 cheque, whilst her winning poster was printed onto a metal plaque and will be displayed in the car parks of the McDonald’s restaurants, along with previous winning posters.

Gordon Henderson MP has welcomed ultrafast broadband being introduced to thousands of additional properties here in Sittingbourne and on the Isle Of Sheppey.

Today’s (Friday 28th May) announcement by Openreach shows it intends to rollout ultrafast, ultra-reliable Full Fibre broadband to 8,320 premises in the constituency and is part of the firm’s ongoing commitment to connect three million homes and businesses in some of the UK’s hardest to serve communities.

Our local Member Of Parliament for Sittingbourne and Sheppey, Gordon Henderson, has declared his backing for Boris Johnson to become the next Leader of the Conservative Party and the UK's Prime Minister. He has confirmed that this was the first choice for members of the Sittingbourne and Sheppey Conservative Association in a Facebook post earlier today (copied above).

Gordon Henderson MP presented local school children with prizes in the Litter Angels 'anti-litte'r poster competition on Thursday (8th November) at Kemsley Community Hall.

Litter Angels is a charity set up in 2008 by Mr Henderson to create, through education, awareness about the anti-social nature of litter and its effect on our local environment.

The theme of this year's competition was how litter harms the seaside and 14 local primary schools took part.

Suggestions Requested For Community Tree Planting

Local MP, Gordon Henderson is joining over 500 other MPs to plant four trees as part of the Queen's Commonwealth Canopy, a network of forest conservation initiatives to mark Her Majesty's lifetime of service to the Commonwealth.

He is now looking for suggestions on where to plant the trees; two in Sittingbourne and two in Sheppey.

The trees, two silver birch and two rowan, donated in partnership with the Woodland Trust, Sainsbury's and ITV, will be planted during a tree planting ceremony between 22nd October and 9th November.

MP for Sittingbourne and Sheppey Gordon Henderson's Facebook page may have fallen foul of new GDPR regulations.

In a Facebook post commenting about the death of 100-year old widow Zofija Kaczan, who relocated to Britain from Poland after the Second World War and was cruelly mugged whilst walking to church in Derby recently, Mr Henderson's page asked for the re-establishment of capital punishment.
