Rugby Club Raises Funds For A Community Defibrillator

The collapse of Denmark’s Christian Eriksen during the Euro 2020 football match against Finland bought home to everyone that no matter how fit we are, illness can strike at any time.

The above events focussed Sittingbourne Rugby Club to consider the purchase of a defibrillator to try to safeguard the wellbeing of their playing members and, given their desire to engage with the local community, that of members of the public.

Suggestions Requested For Community Tree Planting

Local MP, Gordon Henderson is joining over 500 other MPs to plant four trees as part of the Queen's Commonwealth Canopy, a network of forest conservation initiatives to mark Her Majesty's lifetime of service to the Commonwealth.

He is now looking for suggestions on where to plant the trees; two in Sittingbourne and two in Sheppey.

The trees, two silver birch and two rowan, donated in partnership with the Woodland Trust, Sainsbury's and ITV, will be planted during a tree planting ceremony between 22nd October and 9th November.

All over Sittingbourne students are finding out whether or not they have acquired the A-level grades they need to take the next steps in their life's journey.

Borden Grammar School for Boys

116 students sat exams at Borden Grammar school and 64% achieved A*-C.

One pupil at the school who stood-out was Craig Clark who achieved the best results ever achieved by a single pupil.

Community Wardrobe Project 2017 Begins

Parents are being asked to donate unwanted items of school uniform, making it easier for local families on low incomes to get ready for the new school year.

Last year the project saw hundreds of items of school uniform donated. Following on from this success, local churches are once more working in partnership with the council, housing association Optivo, local voluntary groups and the Neighbourhood Furniture Store to redistribute school clothes that are no longer needed.

Organisers of Tunstall Primary School's Summer Fete were left shocked and distressed after stock and prizes for their event were stolen in a burglary.

It is thought that thieves broke-in to the school's storeroom on Thursday (2nd July) evening and stole soft drinks, alcohol and many of the raffle prizes, most of which had been donated and gifted by parents over the previous year.

Grade II Listed Barn To Expand Community Services

The transfer of Iwade Barn to the community in the village is to be discussed at the next Swale Cabinet meeting on Wednesday 12th March.

The recommendation is to offer a new Iwade Barn Trust the 125-year lease for the Grade II listed Barn located at Iwade Cemetery, the adjacent small garden area and associated parking facilities.
