Temporary Road Closures Removed Next Week

Swale Borough Council have confirmed that the temporary road closures in Sittingbourne, Faversham and Sheerness will be removed from next Monday (19th July) following the Government’s latest announcement on the easing of restrictions.

The council said that "closures were put in place last summer to help encourage visitors back to town centres after the first lockdown by creating space to safely social distance and with restrictions coming to an end on Monday 19th July, the closures will be removed allowing traffic to use the high streets again".

More than 700 cannabis plants have been seized from a property in Sheerness.

Officers from the Swale Community Policing Team attended the house, in New Road, yesterday afternoon (Thursday 16th May) after receiving concerns the address was being used to grow the substance.

Inside officers uncovered a large cultivation spread across numerous rooms, along with evidence to suggest electricity was being illegally abstracted to help grow the plants.

Distinctive Tattoo Leads To Jail For Sheerness Burglar

A distinctive tattoo on a burglar's hand has led to him being jailed for seven and a half years after he admitted threatening a woman with a knife in Sheerness.

Charlie Gannon, 21, of Valley Side, Chingford, was jailed on Friday (15th February) at Maidstone Crown Court after he admitted one count of aggravated burglary.

The judge heard how Gannon, along with three other men, targeted a house in Sheerness High Street at around 1.00pm on Sunday 7th October 2018.

Man Jailed For Assault On Traffic Warden

A traffic warden was pushed into a restaurant window while issuing a ticket to an illegally parked driver, a court has heard.

The victim was issuing the ticket in the afternoon of Friday 6th January when the car owner, Daniel Corneille of Estuary Road, Sheerness, returned to his vehicle in Sheerness High Street and became angry.

The 47-year-old was sentenced to two years in jail on Thursday (30th November) at Maidstone Crown Court after pleading guilty to grievous bodily harm without intent following the attack.

Man Bailed After Sheerness Stabbing

A man, arrested in connection with an alleged stabbing in Sheerness High Street, has been released on bail while police enquiries continue.

Kent Police were called at 3.32am yesterday (Thursday 18th August) morning to a report of an assault between Maple Street and Halfway Road on the Isle Of Sheppey.

Officers attended along with ambulance staff and a man in his 20's was taken to King's College Hospital in South East London, where he remains in a serious but stable condition, having suffered an injury consistent with a stab wound.

Pets Die In House Fire In Sheerness

Sheppey and Sittingbourne firefighters were called to a fire in the first floor bedroom of a mid-terraced house on Alexandra Road in Sheerness early today (Tuesday22nd March).

A man, a woman and a teenage boy were led to safety by the crews and were treated by paramedics, for the affects of breathing in smoke, at the scene.

All three were taken to hospital by ambulance. Breathing apparatus was used by the firefighters to extinguish the fire, which is being treated as accidental, using a hose reel.

Witness Appeal Following A249 Serious Collision

Kent Police officers investigating a serious collision in Brielle Way, Sheerness, earlier today (Wednesday 10th February) are appealing for witnesses.

A motorcyclist in his mid-20s was airlifted to a London hospital following the incident at about 10.10am this morning and remains in a critical condition.

He was riding his black Yamaha YQ 100 near the Blue Town end of Brielle Way when he was involved in a collision with a red Citroen C2.

Woman's Body Found In Sheerness Canal

Kent Police recovered a body from the Canal in Halfway Road, Sheerness earlier today.

Officers attended at 9.30am this morning, following a call from a member of the public.

Police Forensic and Marine Unit teams were called to the scene, with a white tent being erected on the canal bank to assist in the investgation.
