130mph Motorway Speeding Motorist Arrested

A motorist, who sped past Kent Police patrols at 130mph, has been arrested after failing to stop for police on the M2 in Sittingbourne.

The patrol observed the motorist driving erratically shortly before 9.40pm last night (Monday 24th January) and signalled for him to stop. The car failed to stop for the officers and continued until the driver pulled over and attempted to run away. He was caught and failed a roadside drugs swipe for cannabis and cocaine.

Dashcam Appeal After Stones Thrown At Cars On M2

Dashcam footage is being sought after a stone thrown from a bridge in Borden struck a motorhome travelling on the M2.

The incident happened at around 4.30pm yesterday afternoon (Monday 24th January) in the Oad Street area of Borden.

The driver, who was unharmed, told police that she saw three boys on the bridge prior to the incident. The stone hit the roof of the motorhome before colliding with the windscreen. The vehicle remained driveable and she reached a place of safety before calling the police.

Increased local patrols are taking place after bricks are reported to have been thrown at motorists from bridges.

Last Sunday (3rd October), at around 5.40pm, officers received three reports of vehicles travelling on the M2, below the Sawpit Road bridge (pictured), having their windscreens and windows damaged. On this occasion, witnesses have not reported seeing anyone on the bridge.

Appeal Following Fatal Collision On The M2

Investigators are appealing for information following a fatal collision on the M2 near Faversham earlier today (Sunday 28th February).

The collision took place on the coastbound carriageway, between junctions 5 and 6, at around 12.25am in the early hours of this morning.

It involved a silver Mercedes CLS 220 and a Mercedes Actros, a lorry which has a blue cabin and white trailer. The driver of the silver car, a man in his 40s from the Medway area, was declared deceased at the scene.

Police Appeal Following Fatal M2 Collision

Information is being sought following a fatal collision on the coastbound M2 near Blue Bell Hill yesterday (Tuesday 16th February) morning.

At  approximately 11.28am Kent Police were called to the collision, involving a blue Vauxhall Corsa and a white Kia Picanto between Junctions 3 and 4.

A 79-year-old man was confirmed deceased at the scene. A woman suffered injuries and was taken to hospital and a third vehicle, an articulated lorry, sustained damage from the debris shortly after the collision.

M2 Closed In Both Directions Due To Lorry Fire

Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) were called to a lorry alight on the London-bound carriageway of the M2, in-between Faversham and Sittingbourne earlier today. 
 
The KFRS received the call shortly after 04:10am this morning and three fire engines and a bulk water carrier were sent to the scene, as well as a crew from the KFRS Technical Rescue Unit. 
 
The motorway was closed in both directions whilst crews worked to extinguish the fire. 
 
Officers from Kent Police Roads Policing Unit were also in attendance.

Police Appeal Following Weekend M2 Collision

Kent Police are appealing for witnesses after a collision near to Junction 5 of the M2 in the early hours of Saturday (5th September) morning.

At around 2:00am a grey BMW 3 Series and a white Nissan NV200 Acenta were involved in a collision near the slip road that joins the Londonbound motorway.

Two people were taken to a local hospital for treatment to injuries that were not described as serious however significant damage was done to both vehicles.

M2 Motorway Dangerous Driver Jailed

A dangerous driver, who severely injured another motorist, has been jailed.

Hughie Coyle, 22, of Springhouse Road, Stanford-le-Hope in Essex, was sentenced at Maidstone Crown Court on Friday (31st July) to three years and four months in prison after pleading guilty to one count of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and one count of driving while disqualified.

He was charged after being arrested on Saturday 18th May 2019 following a collision near a service station on the London-bound carriageway of the M2 between junction 5 and junction 4.
