Couple Sentenced Following Fatal Collision

A couple from Sittingbourne have been sentenced after they claimed their car had been stolen before it was involved in a fatal collision with a motorcyclist.

Stuart Powell was behind the wheel of his wife’s car on Wednesday 12th May 2021 when he pulled out in front of a motorcyclist on the B2005 Swale Way inKemsley, near the Milton Creek Fishing Lake.

Powell, aged 34 and of Miller Close in Kemsley, only held a provisional driving licence and was found to have been using his mobile phone at the time of the collision.

Whilst we still navigate our way through the pandemic, Swale Borough Council will this year deliver a scaled back Civic Service of Remembrance at the Sittingbourne War Memorial on Sunday 14th November.

Individuals and organisations wishing to attend the service are asked to arrive by 10.45am and gather in the vicinity of the War Memorial and in Central Avenue car park, which will be closed all morning for the service.

Council To Help Young People To Reconnect

Children and young people in Swale who receive free school meals are being offered the chance to take part in a range of activities to help them reconnect with their lives before the pandemic.

Swale Borough Council have been working with local providers to subsidise a range of activities – from swimming sessions to cinema tickets – thanks to £12,500 of funding from Kent County Council’s Reconnect programme.

Rotary Club Announce 'Community Chest' Beneficiaries

For the the tenth year running the Sittingbourne Invicta Rotary Club have announced the beneficiaries from the 'Community Chest' fund.

Introduced by past President Peter Taffs in 2011 the Community Chest offers an opportunity for small organisations and groups in the Swale area to share in the socially distanced fund raising undertaken by local rotarians in the past year. 

In the ten years since the Community Chest was launched some £40,000 has been raised and distributed into Swale's community.
