Man Jailed For Manslaughter After Town Centre Death

A violent offender who chased a man into traffic with a machete has been jailed for 16 years.

Chris Maclean, 43, admitted to the manslaughter of Jay Gerrett, who died after being hit by a car on St Michael’s Road, Sittingbourne.

At around 9.10pm on Saturday 2nd August 2025, another man, Jack Hunt, led Mr Gerrett to Pembury Street to sell him drugs. A conversation occurred between the two in the road, which quickly soured and escalated into shouting.

Police Investigate Death Of Man In Town Centre

Detectives are investigating following the death of a man in Sittingbourne town centre late Saturday (2nd August) night.

Police were called shortly after 9.30pm to a report of a collision involving a car and a man who had fallen from a wall into St Michael’s Road, near to the junction with Dover Street.

Officers attended along with paramedics and a man in his 30s was confirmed deceased. His next of kin has been informed.

Another Lorry Collision In The New Road Layout

Yet another collision has happened involving a lorry and a car on the new section of Dover Street/St Michael's Road near the new Bourne Place development.

This is the second collision in as many weeks and happened at around 7:00pm this evening (Tuesday 25th February).A witness told SFM News that the car had lost it,s bumper in the collision and the lorry appeared to be on the wrong side of the road after following the corner around towards the Lidl store.

Concerns about the safety of the new road layout have been made to Kent Highways and Swale Borough Council.
