Description

Acclaimed historian Andy Robertshaw is creating a replica First World War trench, built by historians, archaeologists and volunteers, to exact contemporary specifications. The trench, located in the Elham Valley in Kent is known as “The Hawthorne Trench”, and will be a true learning experience for children and adults alike.‘ Andy will explain how thousands of men ate, slept, lived, fought and died in the miles of trenches that stretched across the Western Front in World War I. The Historical Research Group of Sittingbourne and the Sittingbourne War Memorials Project team present this talk as part of the Swale Borough Council, WW1 centenary commemorations. Proceeds go towards local WW1 2018-2019 centenary peace events.
