M2 Closed In Both Directions Due To Lorry Fire

Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) were called to a lorry alight on the London-bound carriageway of the M2, in-between Faversham and Sittingbourne earlier today. 
 
The KFRS received the call shortly after 04:10am this morning and three fire engines and a bulk water carrier were sent to the scene, as well as a crew from the KFRS Technical Rescue Unit. 
 
The motorway was closed in both directions whilst crews worked to extinguish the fire. 
 
Officers from Kent Police Roads Policing Unit were also in attendance.

M2 Motorway Dangerous Driver Jailed

A dangerous driver, who severely injured another motorist, has been jailed.

Hughie Coyle, 22, of Springhouse Road, Stanford-le-Hope in Essex, was sentenced at Maidstone Crown Court on Friday (31st July) to three years and four months in prison after pleading guilty to one count of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and one count of driving while disqualified.

He was charged after being arrested on Saturday 18th May 2019 following a collision near a service station on the London-bound carriageway of the M2 between junction 5 and junction 4.

Witnesses Sought Following M2 Fatal Collision

Kent Police are appealing for witnesses following a fatal collision on the M2 near Medway earlier this afternoon (Tuesday 8th October).

Officers were called to the coastbound carriageway of the motorway, near the services between junctions 4 (Gillingham) and 5 (Sittingbourne), at 1.36pm where a collision had taken place involving a white lorry and grey BMW estate car.

A man aged in his 20s sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.

M2 'Urgent Repair' Works This Weekend

Drivers are facing possible delays this weekend as the coastbound carriageway of the M2 is closed for "urgent repairs".

Highways England will be undertaking waterproofing, resurfacing and repair works to the Stockbury viaduct, meaning the coastbound carriageway of the M2 will be shut all weekend. 

Coastbound traffic will be diverted off the M2 at junction five, then onto the southbound A249 before joining the coastbound M20 at junction seven and then through until junction nine to join the A251 and then back to junction 6 of the M2.

Van Fire Causes Long M2 Delays

There have been long delays on the M2 motorway at Junction 5 (Sittingbourne) this afternoon, after a broken down van caught fire.

Traffic on the London-bound carriageway was held just after the Stockbury roundabout to allow emergency services to get to the scene and deal with the blaze.

The road was closed for around an hour causing long delays. No injuries have been reported.

Three Vehicle Collision Closes M2 Motorway

Firefighters helped to release a man who was trapped in a van following a crash involving a car and two vans on the coast-bound carriageway of the M2 earlier today.

The collision happened just before Junction 5 for the A249 and Sittingbourne at around 9:15am.

Crews used hydraulic rescue equipment to free the man, who was then passed into the care of the South East Coast Ambulance Service.

The Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) is at the scene of an HGV fire on the coast bound carriage way of the M2 between junctions 2 for Rochester and junctions 3 for Walderslade. The A229 is also cloed at The Lord Lees and Taddington Roundabouts due to big plumes of smoke moving across the carriageways. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. KFRS crews are using hose reel jets to extinguish the blaze currently. There are no reported injuries and the cause of the fire isn't known at this time.

Appeal After Orpington Man Dies In M2 Crash

Kent Police are appealing for witnesses to a serious collision on the London-bound carriageway of the M2 between junctions six and five near Faversham late last night (Monday 14th August).

The collision happened at 11.05pm and involved a silver coloured BMW 530.

The driver of the vehicle, a 27-year-old man from the Orpington area, was declared dead at the scene and a road closure was in place following the collision which was lifted at around 7am this morning (Tuesday 15th August).

Met Police 'Gun Plot' Chase On M2 Motorway

Metropolitan Police have confirmed that two men have been charged with firearm offences after an armed police chase on the M2 motorway which ended near Junction 5 on Sunday (19th February) evening.

A number of police cars, including armed officers from the Metropolitan Police's Trident Gang Crime Command, a specialist team tackling gang violence, pursued two vehicles along the motorway London-bound between Faversham and Sittingbourne.
