Charges Made In Shop Burglaries Investigation

Detectives investigating burglaries at two businesses in Kent have charged a suspect.

Liam Scott, aged 24 and of Lower Road in Faversham, has been charged with two counts of burglary, making off without payment, theft of a motor vehicle and driving without insurance.

As part of the investigation a warrant was carried out at a property in Faversham on the Friday (5th January) morning where Mr Scott was arrested.

Lorry Fire Causing Long Delays On The M2

Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) is responding to a lorry fire on the M2 coast-bound near to Junction 5 for the A249 Sittingbourne.

Seven fire engines and a bulk water carrier are in attendance and crews wearing breathing apparatus are using compressed air foam to extinguish the flames. 

Both the coast-bound and London-bound carriageways have been closed while crews work at the scene, and drivers are warned to expect delays.

Arrest Following Suspicious Fire In Faversham

A man has been arrested as officers continue to investigate a fire in Faversham.

Kent Police were called in to assist Kent Fire and Rescue Service at the scene of a fire in St Mary's Road at aroung 4.05am yesterday (Thursday 6th July).

The fire was extinguished and two people were taken to a local hospital with injuries.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown and remains under investigation, however it is being treated as suspicious.

A man in his 50s has been arrested in relation to the incident and remains in custody while enquiries continue.

SBC Raise Concerns Over KCC Recycling Centre Proposals

The leader of Swale Borough Council and the chair of the council's Environment Committee have raised concerns about the potential borough-wide impact of the closure of the Faversham Household Waste and Recycling Centre (HWRC).

Kent County Council have proposed three options for saving £1.5m from their HWRC’s and every one of those options includes the closure of Faversham HWRC. Two of the three options would also see Sheerness HWRC close for two days a week.

Local senior citizen's charity, Age UK Faversham & Sittingbourne, has decided to merge with Age UK Medway to ensure it can still run its vital services for elderly people locally in the future.

It's understood that funding from Kent County Council is coming to an end soon and the board of trustees have taken the decision to merge with the nearby Medway branch following the news that their Chief Executive Clare Burgess was leaving.

KFRS Infrared Drone Locates Injured Missing Woman

Drone technology has led to the successful rescue of a woman who’d been missing for over eight hours, after she broke her leg walking alone in woodland. 

Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) was called to assist Kent Police with the search shortly after midnight on Sunday (14th May) in Faversham, where the lady was believed to be following a phone call she had made earlier that day, before running out of battery.

Police Appeal Following A Serious Assault In Faversham

Detectives are appealing for witnesses to a serious assault in Faversham yesterday (Wednesday 25th January) evening.

Between 5pm and 5.20pm a silver BMW, driving along Lower Road, is reported to have been driven at a man standing on the pavement.

It is alleged some men got out of the vehicle and chased the victim into St Paul’s Avenue where he suffered an injury consistent with a stab wound.

The 19-year-old was taken to a London hospital where he remains in a stable condition. It is thought the victim and the suspects were known to each other.

Flood Alert For Swale And Coastal Areas

This Flood Alert has been issued by the Environmant Agency due to the high tide expected to affect coastal and tidal locations this afternoon (Monday 21st February).

The Agency say that flooding is possible two hours either side of high tide, between 2pm and 6pm today, with strong winds and unsettled weather causing higher water levels than normal. Flooding will affect lower lying locations nearest the coast throughout this area, particularly around Faversham Creek, Conyer and low-lying parts of Seasalter.

Police Appeal Following Fatal Collision In Faversham

Collision investigators are appealing for information following the death of a motorist in Faversham.

At around 8.50am this morning  (Wednesday 19th January), a collision between a silver Toyota Yaris and white Volvo skip loader took place at the junction of The Western Link and Bysing Wood Road.

The Yaris was joining Western Link from Bysing Wood Road and the lorry was travelling along Western Link Road, towards London Road.  

The driver of the Yaris, a man in his 90s from the local area, died at the scene.

Three People Rescued From Flood Water In Faversham

Kent Fire and Rescue Service were called to reports of three people stranded in flood water on North Lane in Faversham earlier today (Tuesday 4th January).

Three fire engines were sent to the scene at around 1:30pm and when crews arrived they were found stranded within two separate vehicles.

Firefighters wearing dry suits entered the water to rescue the occupants and lead them to safety.

The public are being advised to avoid any roads that are flooded, and to take extra care by following a few simple steps:
