Kent Fire and Rescue Service were called to reports of a fire in the loft space of a house on Newton Road in Faversham, shortly after 3:30am this morning (Saturday 27th June) following lightning striking the roof.

Two fire engines attended, and crews wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fire using hose reel jets. There were no reported injuries.
In a seperate incident crews were also called to reports of a house fire on Uplees Road in Oare after lightning struck the roof there shortly after 3:40am.
Four fire engines attended that fire, and crews wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fire using hose main jets, before making sure there were no remaining hotspots.
The KFRS Volunteer Response Team attended the incident to provide support to the residents of the property.
There were no reported injuries there either.
A Met Office Amber Alert remains in place until 9pm this evening - tune in for the latest information.
The Met Office have also advised there could be more thunderstorms tonight overnight with possible localised flooding.
