Following on from the success of their Sixth Form results last week, it’s was the turn of the Year 11 students at Sittingbourne school's to celebrate today (Thursday 20th August) after receiving their GCSE and BTEC results.
At The Sittingbourne School (TSS) across the subjects, students have performed well. Stand out performers were Alvina, who achieved three grade 9s in her Literature, French and History exams, five grade 8s including maths, Physics and English and a grade 7 in Sports Studies.
Logan got grade 9s in Maths, Biology and Physics, grade 8s in Chemistry and Computing, a grade 7 in Geography and grade 6 in English Language. Uliana achieved a grade 9 in English Literatures, grades 8s in Maths and Science, and grade 7s in Art and English Literature.
Amelia came out with grade 8s in Chemistry, History and Maths, grade 7s in Biology, English Language and Physics, a level 2 distinction in Business Students and a grade 6 in English Literature. Honour has achieved grade 8s in Biology, Drama, History and Maths, a grade 7 in Chemistry and grade 6s in English Languge.
Head Teacher at TSS, Nick Smith, told SFM News:: “We are very proud of the achievements of our fantastic students in their exams this summer. Their resilience, hard work and determination can be seen in some truly exceptional results. Our students now have invaluable qualifications that will open doors for the rest of their lives.
None of this would have been possible without the hard work and support of all the TSS teachers and support staff who have gone above and beyond to make sure no student missed out. I would also like to thank all of our students' parents and carers too for their support.”
Over at Borden Grammar 86% of students achieved 5 GCSEs at grade 5 or more (a ‘strong pass’) including both mathematics and English, which is a significant jump from previous examination years at Borden. Overall, 97% of all student outcomes were at grade 9 to 4 (A* to C). The school told SFM News: "This represents excellent outcomes by a cohort of students who have displayed immense levels of determination and resilience during the course of their GCSE studies. We are enormously proud of the achievements of all of our students under such challenging circumstances and wish them the very best of luck as they move on to pursue their future choices".
Nationally the GCSE pass rate has remained stable – with 67.3% of all grades across England, Wales and Northern Ireland at 4/C and above.
That's only very slightly down from 67.4% last year.
What is being seen is a picture of consistency, broadly, after years of flux in 2020 and 2021 when exams were cancelled because of the Covid pandemic and results were based on teachers' assessments.
