Couple Sentenced Following Fatal Collision

A couple from Sittingbourne have been sentenced after they claimed their car had been stolen before it was involved in a fatal collision with a motorcyclist.

Stuart Powell was behind the wheel of his wife’s car on Wednesday 12th May 2021 when he pulled out in front of a motorcyclist on the B2005 Swale Way inKemsley, near the Milton Creek Fishing Lake.

Powell, aged 34 and of Miller Close in Kemsley, only held a provisional driving licence and was found to have been using his mobile phone at the time of the collision.

Investigators are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage following a fatal collision on the A249.

At around 3.20pm Yesterday (Saturday 23rd April) afternoon, a collision involving a grey BMW, a blue Vauxhall and a Harley Davidson motorbike took place on the northbound carriageway of the A249 near Danaway.

Kent Police attended along with South East Coast Ambulance Service and the motorcyclist, a man in his 50s, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A Sittingbourne driver has been jailed after a teenage girl who was a passenger in his car died following a collision near Ashford.

Fahren Smith was behind the wheel of a Suzuki Swift which had five passengers inside when it left Mundy Bois Road, Egerton and collided with a tree on the evening of Saturday 4th July 2020.

Millie Greenway, 17, suffered serious injuries in the collision and died in an ambulance on the way to hospital. The car's four other passengers all sustained serious injuries and continue to receive ongoing treatment.

Kent Police's Serious Collision Unit investigators are appealing for witnesses after a motorcyclist died in Sittingbourne last night (Wednesday 12th May).

The fatal road collision happened at around 9.44pm on Swale Way when a Honda CBR1000 motorbike collided with a blue Citroen C4 Picasso.

The driver of the motorbike, a 26-year-old man from Whitstable, was riding along the road when the two vehicles collided near the entrance of Milton Creek fishing lakes and Swale Way.

Investigators are appealing for information following a fatal collision on the M2 near Faversham earlier today (Sunday 28th February).

The collision took place on the coastbound carriageway, between junctions 5 and 6, at around 12.25am in the early hours of this morning.

It involved a silver Mercedes CLS 220 and a Mercedes Actros, a lorry which has a blue cabin and white trailer. The driver of the silver car, a man in his 40s from the Medway area, was declared deceased at the scene.

Kent Police are appealing for witnesses to a fatal collision near Sittingbourne.

At 9.55pm last night (Thursday 18th May), a white Mitsubishi L200 truck travelling on the A2 London Road in Newington was in collision with a parked unattended vehicle and a boundary wall near to the junction of Playstool Road.

One of the passengers of the truck, a 17-year-old boy from Medway, died at the scene.

Three other people suffered injuries and were taken to hospital.

A lorry driver who caused the death of an elderly cyclist in Teynham has been imprisoned for three years.

59-year-old William Magee, of Readers Court in Chelmsford, Essex, failed to properly check his surroundings before pulling out across London Road, shortly before 10.15am on Saturday 13th February 2016 and his articulated lorry collided with a bicycle being ridden by 73-year-old Barbara Phipps from Lynsted (pictured), who died instantly.

Kent Police are appealing for witnesses following a fatal collision in Sheerness earlier today (Wednesday 7th January).

A blue Mazda 323F is reported to have collided with two unoccupied parked vehicles and a wall in Queensway at around 8.00am this morning.

The driver of the Mazda, a man in his 50s and from the Sittingbourne area, was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no passengers in the vehicle.
