Costal Flood Alert Issued For Tomorrow

The Environment Agency have issued a Flood Alert for the Isle of Sheppey and the coastal areas from Kemsley to Seasalter for tomorrow (Tuesday 11th October).

A high spring tide and positive tidal surge is expected to affect the coast overnight tonight and in the early hours of tomorrow. Tides will be at their highest between midnight and 04:00 BST on Tuesday morning.

Pupils Told To Self-Isolate After COVID-19 Alert

The new academic year hasn't got off to a great start for five Sittingbourne Schools in regards to the current COVID-19 Coronavurus pandemic.

Firstly, yesterday (Monday 7th September) a group of pupils and teachers were told to self-isolate after a Year 6 child tested positive for COVID-19 at St Peter's Catholic Primary School in West Ridge, after staff were informed of the case by PHE (Public Health England). Also on Monday two children at South Avenue Primary School's in Year 1 and 5 bubbles tested positive for COVID-19.

Local Flood Alert In Force Now

A Flood Alert has been issued due to the high tide forecast for this afternoon (Sunday 10th May).

The Environment Agency has confirmed that the highest tide level is expected to be at 3:30pm this afternoon. Flooding is possible two hours either side of this time.

They say they are monitoring the situation, though flooding to properties is not expected. The main areas of concern include Faversham and Conyer and response staff are checking flood defences and structures and are prepared to respond if required.

The North Kent Coast from Kemsley to Seasalter, including Sheerness, Minster, Queenborough, Leysdown, Sittingbourne, and Faversham are on flood risk.

An Environment Agency spokesman told SFM News that: "From Wednesday (11th January) evening through to Saturday, spring tides combined with positive surges and strong wind conditions are raising the risk of some coastal flood impacts. This flood alert is therefore likely to remain in force until Saturday".

Samsung Alert From KCC Trading Standards

Kent County Council's (KCC) Trading Standards Department are advising Galaxy Note 7 owners to turn off their smartphones following fire safety concerns.

The smartphone was recalled last month and owners were issued replacement phones, however there are still reports of batteries catching fire. As a result Samsung has announced it is ceasing all production of Galaxy Note 7's.

Customers with the original phone or a replacement should turn off the power immediately and contact the retailer where they purchased the device for a refund or an exchange.

Flood Alert In Place For Isle Of Sheppey

The Environment Agency have issued an Amber Alert for flooding in some parts of the Isle Of Sheppey.

Rail services to the island are currently suspended with a rail replacement bus service in operation.

The main A249 Sheppey Crossing also remains closed until further notice, with all traffic having to use the old Kingsferry Bridge.
